COOKIE BAKING WITH ISAAC


When Isaac’s big brother, Zachary, was little he and I baked chocolate chip cookies together often, just like I did with their mother and my mother did with me.


Passing on the love of baking and cooking is a gift that lasts a lifetime.


This evening, Isaac and I baked together for the first time. We baked chocolate chip cookies. We measured and mixed and talked about how the ingredients come together into a dough that once baked becomes cookies.


“It’s like magic,” I told Isaac.


I like to use the Nestle Toll House mini semi-sweet chocolate chips in my cookies, which ensures there is a morsel of chocolate in every bite. I also always add an extra teaspoon of vanilla to make the cookies extra delicious.


While Isaac waited for the first batch to bake and then cool, I could see the excitement build up in him and he squealed with a giggle when I told him the cookies were ready to eat.


“These are the best chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever eaten,” he said.


Making cookies with Isaac was a delight that I hope to repeat again real soon.


As he walked up the sidewalk to his house, Isaac stopped and turned around to look at me. “I love you, Nana,” he said. “Let’s bake some more cookies tomorrow.”


TOLL HOUSE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES


2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened

3/4 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup packed brown sugar

2 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 large eggs

1 10-ounce package Nestle Toll House Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels


Preheat oven to 375 degrees.


Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl.


Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.


Gradually beat in flour mixture.


Stir in morsels and nuts.


Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.


Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown.


Cool on baking sheets for two minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
